Kuwait winter vaccination campaign kicks off in all health districts

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 14, (Agencies): The Ministry of Health’s winter vaccination campaign – seasonal flu and pneumococcal vaccines – kicks off Thursday in all health districts, reports Al-Anba daily. The campaign, which will be launched in Yarmouk Health Center, shall continue until the current supply of vaccines is utilized.

The campaign targets high-risk groups, taking into account 60 to 70 percent achievement rate for dangerous groups. The pneumococcal vaccine will be given to children aged six months to 16 years who have not been vaccinated under the childhood vaccination program or who have no proof of vaccination – whether the child risk group or healthy population.

The vaccine will also be given to individuals who are 16 years old and above belonging to the risk groups that were not previously vaccinated during winter or Hajj seasons or those without proof of vaccination. Meanwhile, the influenza vaccine will be given to those who are six months old and above with risk factors of being infected with influenza virus, along with the health workers who will be vaccinated according to procedures for dealing with highrisk groups, as well as the pregnant women.

The target groups of the vaccination campaign against respiratory diseases include patients with chronic diseases, the immune- compromised, the remaining groups with risk factors, and sensitive groups related to society such as civil defense, police, army, barbers and drivers; in addition to healthy people – those not suffering from any disease – wishing to be vaccinated.

The campaign is for all citizens and residents. Vaccination will be carried out in preventive health centers in the morning, while some centers will operate in the evening. The two vaccines are available in 34 health centers, in addition to the preventive departments in hospitals. The campaign does not cover the vaccination of individuals under isolation or quarantine. Their vaccination will be postponed until the end of the quarantine period. Health regulations will be implemented strictly during the campaign to prevent crowding, as well as to ensure physical distancing and wearing of masks.k groups
