KFAS to host renowned world economist Richardo Hausman – Lecture on economic complexity and growth on March 16

KUWAIT CITY, March 13: Kuwait Foundation for The Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) will host on Wednesday March 16 a lecture by the internationally renowned Professor Richardo Hausman of Harvard University, titled “Economic Complexity and Secrets of Economic Growth”.

Hausman is the architect of practical theories and concepts in economic complexity and adopting holistic approaches for overhauling struggling economies and boosting growth.

KFAS is hosting the lecture as part of its mission to reinforce a knowledge based economy and to build a solid foundation for science technology and innovation.

The lecture by the eminent world economist and innovator comes at a critical time, where Kuwait, particularly at State level, is seeking to leave no stone unturned to strengthen and transition the national economy towards a more sustainable and resilient future a capable of coping with serious emerging challenges arising from continued low prices of crude oil.

Hausman, Director of the Center for International Development at Harvard University, tackles global economic challenges, institutional capability and policy design and accelerating growth. The center develops practical tools for boosting growth and structural transformation. The mechanisms also address macroeconomic stability, international finance and social dimensions of development.

Hausman, who also teaches at Harvard Kennedy School, has advised governments in over 40 developing countries on creating effective growth strategies and development policies.

His academic work has been published in leading professional journals as well as international business newspapers, such as the New York Times, The Financial Times, The Economist, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post and Forbes Magazine.

Huasman, with a degree in Engineering and Applied Physics and a PhD in Economics, had served as first Chief Economist of the Inter-American Development Bank (1994-2000), Minister of Planning of Vene-zuela (1992-1993) and board member of the Central Bank of Venezuela, as well as Chair of the IMF-World Bank Development Committee.
