KUWAIT CITY, Apr 16: Inspectors from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, with the cooperation of the Ministry of Interior, conducted an inspection tour of car rental offices in Ardiya area, during which a number of violation reports against a number of car rental offices was issued, reports Al-Anba daily.

In this context, Head of Capital Emergency Team in the Commercial Control and Consumer Protection Sector at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Hamid Al-Dhafiri explained that the team of inspectors carried out an inspection tour last week of car rental offices in Ardiya area in Farwaniya Governorate to ensure the implementation of the decisions and laws of the ministry and the protection of car renters and their rights.

The tour resulted in several violations, most notably the lack of a record of car malfunctions in some offices.

The law obliges car rental offices to maintain this file so that the renter does not bear these faults unjustly.

Al-Dhafiri highlighted the audit of car rental offices and review of their contracts to make sure that the renter is not obligated to pay rent for specific days because the law allows for one day or certain hours that specify the beginning and end of the contract.

He indicated that the team was keen about the tour to make sure there are no bills of exchange or a financial bond that the renters sign as a guarantee because the contract, according to the law, is the only document considered in the rental relationship.

Al-Dhafiri affirmed that the cooperation between the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Interior will continue during the coming period to monitor car rental offices in all areas.

He advised renters to check the terms of the lease contract to ensure their protection, affirming that the ministry continues to publish awareness guidelines for consumers on its social media accounts in order to protect them from falling into commercial fraud.

Al-Dhafiri stressed that the tour was the result of the increasing complaints from renters, adding that the violations will be transferred to the Commercial Prosecution.

According to the law, the penalty of the violations detected by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in some offices, and those detected by the Ministry of Interior, may amount to a fine or the closure of the violating rental office.
