KUWAIT CITY, Sept 5: Astronomer and historian Adel Al-Sa’adoun says the reason behind the humid weather witnessed in Kuwait recently is the effect of current change in the air pressure zones, and change of wind direction from northeasterly to southeasterly, reports Al-Rai daily.

He explained that the humid weather is expected to continue for a couple of weeks, during which the rate of humidity will vary. The movement of southeasterly wind towards the country over the Gulf waters is the reason for the high humidity in Kuwait and all other countries alongside the Gulf.

In general, it is normal for humidity to increase due to the upcoming “Suhail” season during which the temperatures drop gradually.

Meanwhile, meteorologist Saleh Al-Ojairi said he is expecting the high rate of humidity to last until Sept 20 and the start of rainfall in mid-October.

He indicated that the slow speed of the southeasterly winds, which range from 8 to 30 kms per hour increases the spread of viruses and bacteria, urging people to stay away from humid places.

In addition, meteorologist Abdulaziz Al-Qarawi from Kuwait Meteorological Directorate said the humid weather is expected to continue until this weekend, indicating that fog is likely to appear by night in some areas.

He affirmed that the average humidity rate on Tuesday exceeded 80 percent especially in the coastal areas and islands, adding that he is expecting the coming week to witness change in the winds to dry northwesterly winds that will help reducing the average humidity rate with relatively high temperatures
