Former sports leader sentenced to one year in prison for mismanagement of public funds

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 16: The Court of First Instance (Misdemeanor Division), presided over by Counselor Abdullah Al-Aslawi, sentenced a former sports leader to one year in prison and acquitted a former international player in a case involving accusations of professional negligence and mismanagement of public funds allocated to sports clubs.

The Public Prosecution charged the defendants, in their roles as public employees, with causing significant damage to their employer's funds due to their negligence and failure to fulfill their duties. This stemmed from their approval and endorsement of a request for financial support for local championships, which violated the applicable regulations and resulted in the misuse of public funds.

The court expressed its satisfaction with the evidence presented by the Public Prosecution against the first defendant but disagreed with the accusations against the second defendant, noting that the evidence was weak and insufficient to reach the level required for conviction.
