‘Fish death phenomenon to continue as 56 gutters empty into Kuwait Bay’

KUWAIT CITY, April 9: While the Environment Public Authority (EPA) has announced the possibility of jellyfish and the spread of algae and the death of some fish phenomena in the southern regions and Kuwait because of the change in the season and the rise of temperature, which contribute to these phenomena, MP Abdullah Fahad, said the fish death will continue as 56 sewage drains continue to flow into the Kuwait Bay, reports Al-Rai daily.

The EPA on the phenomenon of fish deaths said the authority is following up the communication on this issue and a competent technical team comprising members from the concerned departments have conducted various field surveys and collected samples and field data on a continuous basis in addition to following up any incoming reports on these phenomena and also collected water samples and fish in those sites for the necessary analysis.

The standard procedure is considered in all emergency situations associated with fish deaths and other environmental events such as the (red tide) this season to assess the environmental situation. The National Committee for the follow-up of cases of fish deaths will hold its emergency meeting tomorrow at the Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources.
