Fifth Qatari LNG Cargo Passes Through Strait of Hormuz Toward Asia

DOHA, Jun 9: A fifth Qatari liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker carrying cargo has transited the Strait of Hormuz, according to ship-tracking data, bringing the total number of loaded LNG vessels passing through the strategic waterway since the outbreak of conflict to nine, Reuters reported.

The tanker, identified as Al Daayen and operated by QatarEnergy, was tracked near Qatar’s coast around June 4–5, according to analytics firms Kpler and LSEG. It later reappeared east of the Strait of Hormuz on Monday, with tracking data indicating it was heading toward China.

Kpler data showed that the vessel loaded its cargo at Qatar’s Ras Laffan terminal on June 1 before setting course through the Strait, a key global energy chokepoint through which a significant share of LNG exports pass.

Separately, energy analytics firm Vortexa reported that another LNG carrier, operating in ballast, successfully re-entered the Strait after delivering a shipment to India, signaling continued vessel movement despite heightened regional tensions.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical maritime route for global energy supplies, and shipping activity in the area has been closely monitored amid ongoing geopolitical risks.
