Egg shortage in Kuwait: Officials announce urgent action plan
Kuwait is facing an egg shortage crisis.

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 2: The Union of Consumer Cooperative Societies announced an expanded tripartite meeting on Monday to address the ongoing egg shortage crisis in cooperative societies, review its causes, and develop urgent solutions to ensure stable product availability for consumers.

Union head Maryam Al-Awad said the meeting was attended by Faisal Al-Ansari, Director of Commercial Control at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry; Dalal Al-Anzi, Financial Controller of the Union from the Ministry of Social Affairs; and Duaij Al-Hussein, General Supervisor at the Kuwait United Poultry Company, representing the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Discussions focused on joint coordination with the Kuwaiti Union of Poultry Producers to monitor the crisis and prevent its recurrence. Poultry sector representatives indicated that production would gradually resume from December 10. Supplying companies will be granted a grace period after this date to complete supply procedures, with periodic monitoring to ensure the flow of required quantities and prevent new shortages.

The meeting emphasized adherence to instructions from the Federation of Associations and the Ministry of Commerce to maintain stable egg prices and stressed the importance of expediting payments to suppliers to secure the supply chain.

Al-Awad noted that only 39 associations had responded to a September 25 request for inventory and demand data, urging the remaining associations to provide their data promptly to complete the necessary assessments.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Al-Awad expressed appreciation for the cooperation and efforts of all participating entities in maintaining market stability and ensuring the availability of essential goods for consumers.
