Court of Appeal sentences former MP Hussein Al-Qallaf to two years with hard labor

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 15: The Court of Appeal overturned the initial ruling that had acquitted former MP Hussein Al-Qallaf in a state security case after the Public Prosecution filed an appeal. The court sentenced him to two years of imprisonment with hard labor. Al-Qallaf was confronted with the charges but denied them, clarifying that his remarks in the recorded speech shared on social media and WhatsApp were directed at the government, not His Highness the Amir, in relation to the Ministry of Interior's procedures for organizing activities at Hussainiyas during the month of Muharram.

Al-Qallaf confirmed that he would voluntarily surrender to the Execution Department following the appeal court's ruling, showing respect for the law and the judicial rulings issued in the name of His Highness the Amir. His lawyer, however, plans to file an appeal against the ruling before the Court of Cassation.
