KUWAIT CITY, Feb 20: The Court of Appeals nullified the verdict of the Court of First Instance, which banned a Kuwaiti woman from traveling due to failure to pay KD 100,000 debt and ordered her to settle the debt. The higher court lifted the travel ban when the woman’s lawyer, Attorney Dr Obaid Al-Enezi, succeeded in convincing the judge on the reasons why his client could not pay the debt. Case files indicate the woman obtained the loan in 2009 with a promissory note. The creditor confiscated the woman’s real estate property and car as she failed to settle the debt. The woman filed a lawsuit challenging the decision at the lower court, but her case was turned down.

Meanwhile, the Misdemeanors Court, presided over by Judge Hisham Al-Shaheen, fined a female citizen and her lover KD 500 each for committing actions which incite immorality and prostitution through the phone. The case was filed by the woman’s husband through Attorney AbdulMuhsin Al-Qattan who told the court that his client found out his wife was exchanging immoral messages with her lover through a phone registered under his name, asserting such actions incite immorality and prostitution. The court also ordered referral of the case its civil counterpart.
