KUWAIT CITY, April 16: Assistant Undersecretary for Citizenship and Passports Affairs at the Ministry of Interior Major General Sheikh Mazen Al-Jarrah issued a categorical statement on the current issues in the country, assuring that the concerned departments and security units are working assiduously to nip the problems in the bud and deal appropriately with a few fake citizenship cases.

Al-Jarrah said some people are mixing up issues between falsification and dual citizenship to instigate chaos, dent the image of the ministry and defame some people. He asserted there is a big difference between falsification of citizenship in which only very few people are involved and dual citizenship that some people deliberately raised for selfish agenda. He reiterated one or two cases of falsification is not an indication that the recently naturalized persons do not deserve citizenship.

He stressed that Kuwait is an institutional and legal State in all ramifications; so cases of granting, falsification or revocation of citizenship do not happen arbitrarily until thorough verification of documents and data are done at various levels for many years. He stated such cases are dealt with through legal and constitutional channels, which make it difficult to violate especially since it passes through the Office of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior as well as the Council of Ministers. He was shocked that certain people are issuing groundless statements published in some local dailies.

Talking about DNA and new e-passport, Al-Jarrah asserted people have been emphasizing these issues beyond necessary since the process merely involves updating of data and mechanism for creating database like in other countries for the purpose of issuing new passports. On increasing fees for residence permits and visit visas, he clarified the proposal is still with the Legal Department and it has yet to be approved, while the final categories and percentages have not been ratified.
