Arab expat arrested for offending a Gulf country on social media

KUWAIT, May 18: The Kuwait Ministry of Interior arrested a resident of an Arab nationality on Sunday, accusing him of insulting a Gulf country and its rulers, through a publication broadcast on a social networking site, confirming that legal measures had been taken against him.


The Ministry of Interior said in a statement issued by the Department of Security Relations and Media that Cyber crime department through monitoring of social networking sites conducted a search and investigation of the source of the publication that resulted in tracking the abuser who is an expat of Arab nationality and works in a cleaning company.

MOI obtained the legal permission and the resident was arrested. He acknowledged and admitted that he had written and circulated the publication, which led to his referral to the competent authorities.

MOI stated that such kind of abuses to any Gulf or friendly countries will not be tolerated and legal measures will be taken against those who break the law. (KUNA)
