Amiri decree issued to reshuffle cabinet

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 16, (KUNA): An Amiri Decree No. 49/2020 was issued on a cabinet reshuffle on Sunday. The decree says that after being acquainted with the Constitution, the Decree No. 290/2020 regarding the cabinet formation, the Decree No. 41/2020 on accepting the resignation of Minister of Social Affairs, the Decree No. 42/2020 on appointing Acting Minister of Social Affairs and in line with the request of His Highness the Prime Minister, it is decided as follows: Article One:

The following posts will be amended as follows; Khaled Mohammad Ali Al-Fadhel is Minister of Oil and Maryam Aqeel Al-Sayed Hashem Al-Aqeel is Minister of Social Affairs and Minister of State for Economic Affairs.

Article Two: Barrak Ali Barrak Al-Shitan was appointed as Minister of Finance, and Mohammad Hejji Ali Bushehri as Minister of Electricity and Waters.

Article Three: The Cabinet should inform the National Assembly about this decree which comes to effect since the date of its issuance.

The Article added that every text runs counter to the provisions of this decree is cancelled, asking for publishing the decree at the official gazette.

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah later received at Dar Salwa the newly-appointed ministers for an oath-taking ceremony in the presence of His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Prime Minister Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah. During the function, His Highness the Prime Minister introduced to His Highness the Amir the Minister of Social Affairs and Minister of State for Economic Affairs Maryam Aqil Hashem Al-Aqil, Minister of Finance Barrak Ali Barrak Al-Shitan, and Minister of Electricity and Water Mohammad Hejji Bushehri.

After the new ministers were sworn in, His Highness the Amir congratulated them on the confidence placed in them and asked them to place the interests of the homeland above all considerations. He also asked them to respond to the demands of the citizens and enforce law, wishing them success in their respective missions.

The ceremony was also graced by Minister of the Amiri Diwan Affairs Sheikh Ali Jarrah Al- Sabah, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Anas Khaled Al-Saleh, Undersecretary of the Amiri Diwan and Chief of Staff of His Highness the Amir’s Office Ahmad Fahad Al-Dahad, Secretary-General of the Cabinet Abdullatif Abdullah Al-Roudhan and chief of the Amiri Ceremonies Sheikh Khaled Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah Al-Nasser Al-Sabah. His Highness the Amir on Sunday stressed that the newly appointed ministers, who have been sworn in before him, must implement the laws and the State’s systems, and meet needs of citizens.

Addressing the newly-appointed ministers, His Highness the Amir said, “We hope that you, ministers, will pay much attention to your work, execute laws completely and be cooperative with each other”. Addressing His Highness the Amir, His Highness the Prime Minister said Maryam Al-Aqeel received the Ministry of Finance and made a huge effort, and will have another responsibility at the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Ministry of Economic Affairs which has the development plans. “Barrak Al-Shitan is well acquainted with the nature of the Ministry of Finance, and will, in implementation of Your Highness’s instructions, work on protecting the public fund and expenditure rationalization,” His Highness the Prime Minister went to say.

In addition, His Highness the Prime Minister noted, “Mohammad Bushehri has served as an engineer at the Ministry of Electricity and Water, and was promoted to undersecretary. He knows the ministry’s nature and the needs of water and electricity in summer”. “In implementation of Your Highness’ directives, all the Cabinet’s ministers will work to materialize these directives,” His Highness the Premier said. His Highness the Amir hoped for a better tomorrow for the country
