From the size and connectivity to choosing and narrowing down your options from the millions out there, it can get pretty hectic and frustrating. There are quite a few questions that you need to ask yourself. Is it meant to be carried around a lot?

Do you need it for heavy-duty photo editing or video-making? Do you have a tight budget? This is precisely why people turn to the internet looking for answers and some desperate help. You need a laptop buying guide that will give you the things you should consider before buying a laptop. After all, there are multiple components of the laptop that you need to keep in mind before deciding to do any buying.

As technology is constantly evolving and changing, the features and design of laptops also change. Manufacturers are constantly developing a new and better CPU, RAM, design and other features in a laptop. International companies like intel are always working on making a better processor with faster speeds catering to the latest trends and the user’s needs.

With all these options it might be hard to make a decision. Well, look no further for here is a list of things that you have to look out for before you buy a laptop. Consider this your laptop buying guide.

1. Budget:

The budget should be your utmost priority. You need a rough estimate of how much you are willing to spend on the laptop and if you have any wiggle room in that amount. Everybody is capable of buying a laptop, so fix the amount you will be willing to spend on it before you go overboard.

It also heavily depends on your financial stability. If you are a student who is working part-time, you might not have a ton of cash to spare. However, if you are an employee at a big IT firm, you may have some extra bucks that you can throw in there to get a better deal.

In this scenario, the student may have a low budget and hence will look for the best budget laptops. While on the other hand, the employee at the big firm can afford high budget laptop. Regardless of how much you can put down on the laptop, you need to also look at what features you get in that amount.

You do not want to settle for a decent laptop with low performance if you are doing heavy editing on it. Over time, it will just be a wasted investment. Instead, consider saving up.

2. Processor (CPU)

Processor (CPU) is the main part of a laptop or the computer system which defines the speed of processing any task in a particular system. If you want to surf the web, play the latest video games, edit videos, photos and audios, you will need a powerful processor. A fast processor will let you do all the tasks on the system and makes it go easily.

Most of the latest laptops come with CPU of two brands: Intel and AMD. Both give a decent performance but Intel is considered to be more advanced than AMD.

Laptops with Intel processors are also more expensive as compared to AMD laptops. If you want a superfast high processing speed, then choose the Intel Core i7 laptop.

3. RAM (Random Access Memory):

RAM or Random Access Memory is the physical memory of any computer or laptop that helps in the speeding up of the processing of any application. For a smooth operation of all tasks, it is recommended to have a laptop that at least has 4GB of RAM.

If you plan on using your laptop for heavier processing like video editing or graphics, then your laptop would require more than 4 GB RAM. Regardless of how much memory you got installed in your laptop, the RAM defines how fast your laptop will be.

You must always look for a laptop with DDR3 RAM as its latest since it runs at a faster frequency than the older DDR2.

4. Hard Disk Drive(HDD):

Hard Disk Drive(HDD) stores your data, including documents software, videos, images and any other system files. This is another factor to consider before you buy a laptop. You need to know how much storage you want.

Most of the inexpensive laptops come with a hard drive space of about 320GB. You can increase its capacity by replacing it with another hard drive of higher storage ca[pacity. Otherwise, there are a lot of laptops that offer 500GB or 1TB of storage as well.

However, if you want your system to perform any task in a matter of a few seconds, then opt for an SSD(Solid-State Drive). However, they are more expensive than the normal HDD but way faster than HDD. Most high-end laptops do come with the SSD.

5. Battery

The battery capacity of your laptop is a very important factor to consider. You should not have to rely on being constantly plugged into the chagrin port while using yourla[ptop. Since the laptop is a portable device, it needs to have a decent battery life so that it can work anywhere. Poor battery life will be a constant interruption while you are working.

Especially when you are using heavy applications that drain your battery faster than the other apps. Most of the inexpensive laptops come with 6-cell batteries, which is not very long-lasting. It will last you for about 4 hours. However, battery life is also dependent on the usage and how you maintain it. Modern processors also allow the battery to get to a maximum back up as they take less power.

These are a few most important factors to consider before buying a laptop. However, do think about the screen size, weight of the laptop and durability before buying a laptop.

There are certain things you should not miss out on while buying the laptop. Do not make a purchase you will regret. If you think you need a higher processor, do not settle for a lower one. It is not replaceable and will lead to more expense later on. Be wise about purchases.
