What we wash is whiter …

A trustworthy colleague in the legal field asked me to narrate an incident to the respected readers, as well as the irresponsible and supposedly wise decision-makers in the two authorities. God has afflicted us with such members of the two authorities in recent years!

My colleague has a friend pursuing postgraduate studies in the Federal Republic of Germany, not Botswana — with due respect to the two countries. This friend is now acquainted with the Germans who are advanced in everything.  He purchased a house in Berlin — the capital — where he, his wife and children are residing.  He also bought a car and opened an account in a high-ranking German bank.

The shocking and humiliating incident happened a few days ago when his wife purchased household items in one of the major grocery stores.  The cashier told her that her German bank card was suspended and that she had to go to the bank.  She immediately went to the bank, which was not far from the store.  She met a bank official and informed the latter that her card is not working.  The account had a huge balance, so the official’s response came like a hammer on her head!!

The official informed her that the German Central Bank, which is responsible for all banks, recently issued a directive to the banks not to disburse any amount to any Kuwaiti account holder as per the instruction of Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad, Central Bank of Kuwait Governor Dr Mohammad Al-Hashel, whoever replaced him, and other financial experts.

This happened because we washed our hands with soap and water, detoxing ourselves from the members of our nation’s assembly and our government who tackled the ‘fatwa’ (edict) of the unnecessary ministry; in addition to its expenses.  They philosophized on public funds, particularly the unnecessary expenses. This is the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, which issued a fatwa on allowing women to work as a doctor, nurse or teacher provided these four conditions are met: they work in legitimate fields, their guardians or husbands allow them to work, they should not mingle with foreign male colleagues unless there is a legitimate need to do so, and they should wear the legally prescribed veil.
