KUWAIT CITY, April 19: Almost one year after the National Assembly empowered the State Audit Bureau to take disciplinary measures against violating senior officials in the public sector, the disciplinary sessions were launched on the seventh floor of its headquarters.

According to an informed source, an investigation panel has been probing the roles played by each of the officials in line with the Chapter 4 of the bylaw of its establishment. He said the Budgets and Final Accounting Committee of State Audit Bureau has been reviewing all of the procedures taken, revealing that the affected officials violated rules and regulations by misappropriating public funds or failing to collect outstanding funds accruable to the Treasury.

The source explained that the panel will summon all public officials and employees found wanting in this regard. The Chairman of Fatwa and Legislation Department heads the panel and its members include undersecretary of State Audit Bureau, undersecretary of Ministry of Finance, a judge from Fatwa and Legislation Department and undersecretary of Civil Service Commission. None of the members are supposed to be below the level of the officials to be probed in terms of the civil service cadre.

Regarding information that some of the affected officials have been meeting the concerned officials for soft landing over their various violations, the source revealed that the bureau officials are determined to apply their prerogatives. He stressed that the officials are cautious about changing their decisions as they could also be referred for investigations over their decisions, adding that some of the affected officials may eventually be referred to the Public Prosecution if they were found guilty of criminal offences at the end of the probe.
