KUWAIT CITY, Jan 15: The Court of Appeals has fixed January 28 for issuing a verdict on the appeal filed against the ruling of the Court of First Instance which sentenced five individuals to ten-year imprisonment with hard labor and acquitted two others in a case filed against them for allegedly collecting donations in support of DAESH and Al-Nusra Front. According to the case file, the Public Prosecution accused the suspects of collecting the donations in 2012 as well as on 19 May 2015. It accused all the suspects of fighting in Syria without seeking permission from the government. It alleged that the some of the suspects joined DAESH, which had planned to attack the country. Some of them were involved in recruiting people to join DAESH and had funded their activities. All the activities were considered as capable of straining the relations between Kuwait and affected countries.

Verdict revoked: The Misdemeanor Section in the Court of Appeals has revoked the verdict of a lower court, which had previously sentenced MP Abdul Hamid Dashti to one month in prison for his defamatory statements. The higher court issued another ruling, imposing fine of KD300 on Dashti in the two cases filed by former MP Mohammad Al-Saqer and CEO of Al-Jarida newspaper Khalid Hilal Al-Muteiri. They accused Dashti of insulting them through his statements during the gathering of a number of citizens in front of the newspaper in protest against the publication of an article deemed offensive to the Shiites. It has been reported that these citizens, who are also Shiites, organized a sit-in in front of the newspaper after the publication of the article defaming revered Shiite leader Sayed Ali Al-Sistani.
