Use of nebulizers in school clinics banned in Kuwait

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 14: About 856 schools of Ministry of Education have clinics that are equipped with necessary medicines and tools for dealing with emergency cases, and efficient nurses, reports Al-Rai daily.

A number of nurses who work in school clinics revealed that they receive thousands of students every day. They explained that most of the students suffer from diabetes, a disease that has been on a rise among students of elementary level. Students suffering from runny nose and flu especially during mid-season are the second most patients in the school clinics.

The nurses indicated that the use of nebulizers is prevented out of fear of overdose. One of the nurses explained that his clinic has all the necessary equipment such as oxygen tank, blood pressure monitor and blood glucose meter.

Also, a dental clinic was recently opened to receive the students at specific times. Few weeks ago, the fifth grade students were administered vaccinations by special teams from Ministry of Health.

He revealed that his clinic receives many cases of students who were hit by solid objects or who fell on the ground, among other cases, indicating that, in such cases, they first administer First Aid by cleaning and stitching up the wounds or applying medicine on the bruises; but if the student’s condition requires hospital care, an ambulance is called to transport the student. Another nurse revealed that obesity has been prevalent among students lately, especially those in elementary level.
