KUWAIT CITY, Nov 4: Personnel from the General Department for Criminal Evidences have arrested a US citizen, identified only as D., for breaking into shops in Abu Futaira and stealing money and expensive cell phones, reports Al-Rai daily.

The daily added, the 35-year-old was arrested after one of the victims, a Kuwaiti who owns a shop selling electronics, complained to the Mubarak Al-Kabir police.

In his complaint the Kuwaiti said ‘someone’ entered his shop and stole KD 1,250 and five expensive cell phones.

Police then requested to see the CCTV footage from the camera that has been installed in the shop but it did not help much because on the footage police saw someone wearing a pair of Jeans entering the shop, committing the theft in a professional manner and leaving. He could not be recognized because his head was covered.

Police then set a trap and caught the man red-handed and during interrogation he admitted to the charge. He also led police to his home where he had hidden some of the looted items.

‘Fake’ citizens to leave in droves : Those who illegally obtained Kuwaiti citizenship, in a panic mode, have thronged various ministries to obtain clearance letters for settling outside the country particularly in Saudi Arabia, which has become the latest favorite destination for such people, reports Al-Shahed daily.

The congestion grabbed the attention of the employees of these ministries and they wondered the reason behind the endless number of clearance letter requests. Some visitors said their families will settle in Saudi Arabia. This thereby confirms the report published by the newspaper few days ago about the intention of thousands of people who obtained citizenship illegally to head to Saudi Arabia for settling there after selling their houses before the launch of the DNA testing project, which can expose them.

A number of employees from ministries such as Ministry of Electricity and Water, Ministry of Finance and Kuwait Municipality among others where real-estate records are maintained revealed that hundreds of visitors have been seeking clearance letters, which is required for the sale of real-estate, adding that those who have school-going children have asked for transfer letters of their children in preparation for their transfer to Saudi schools.

It was also reported that some of these citizens have sold or leased the houses provided to them by the Public Authority for Housing Welfare, which has in turn resulted in noticeable decline in the real-estate prices.
