Meshal Al-Sayyar

KUWAIT CITY, March 8: Head of the Union of Consumer Cooperative Societies Meshal Al-Sayyar says the union has called on all cooperative societies to ensure there is sufficient food stock for not less than six months in each cooperative society, reports Al-Rai daily.

He revealed that the decision to provide strategic food stock to the cooperative societies that do not have storage facilities was taken during a meeting of the union with the heads of cooperative societies. Regarding face masks, Al-Sayyar clarified that he has instructed all cooperative societies to sell face masks at the subsidized cost of 100 fils and distribute them among the ration foods for citizens.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Kuwait Union for Livestock Breeders (KULB) Mohammad Al-Bughaili called for government’s intervention as a matter of urgency to rescue tens of thousands of livestock, including sheep and camels, affected by the skyrocketing prices of fodder over the last days due to emergence of the novel corona virus, reports Al-Anba daily.

In a statement, Al-Bughaili said Kuwait took the necessary precautionary measures to protect the country and tried to prevent penetration and spread of the virus through some countries that had reported cases of the infection by canceling all marine and air transportation and suspending the importation of all products from those countries without alternatives or making provision for livestock fodder. He expressed resentment of the livestock breeders who are suffering in the hands traders exploiting the current situation to raise the prices of fodder for high profits.
