ANKARA, Nov 25: Turkish steel industry takes strong initiative to further boost relations with Kuwait. Turkish Steel Exporters’ Association organized a visit to Kuwait between Nov 17 and 19 with a delegation of 21 Turkish steel companies. Having brought together representatives of the steel industry as well as senior officials from both countries, the visit focused on strengthening cooperation between steel industries of Kuwait and Turkey and mutual increase of industrial investments.

Turkey and Kuwait have enjoyed ongoing political and economic ties which are now taken to the next level with the steel industry. Turkish Steel Exporters Association organized a friendship and commercial visit to Kuwait with the participation of 27 representatives from 21 companies. The meetings during the visit ushered in a new era in cooperation and investments between the two countries, with particular emphasis on the need for joining the experiences of Turkish and Kuwaiti steel producers. The visit specifically highlighted the desire to reinforce friendship, trade and industrial investments between the countries.

The program kicked off with a visit to Kuwait Chamber of Commerce, where an official meeting was held with the participation of Turkish Ambassador to Kuwait Salih Murat Tamer. The Turkish delegation then carried out bilateral business meetings with their Kuwaiti counterparts.  Turkish Ambassador to Kuwait Salih Murat Tamer, Chairman of the Turkish Steel Exporters’ Association Nam¦k Ekinci and officials from the Turkish Ministry of Economy later paid official visits to the Kuwait Ministry of Commerce and Public Authority for Industry.

A total of 300 business meetings were held between Turkish steel companies and 30 representatives from the Kuwaiti steel industry.  Both parties referred to the meetings as highly fruitful.

Nam¦k Ekinci, Chairman of the Turkish Steel Exporters’ Association said in a statement: “Turkey and Kuwait have long enjoyed stable political and economic cooperation so far. On behalf of the Turkish steel industry, we as Turkish Steel Exporters’ Association took the first step towards tightening our bond with our Kuwaiti counterparts. We believe that by joining the representatives of the steel industry in two countries, the visit laid the groundwork for the industries to get to know each other, understand their mutual needs and offer solutions to cater to those needs.  Currently, Turkey and Kuwait have already engaged in a high number of mutual investments. Kuwait offers substantial convenience to draw foreign investment, qualified engineers and tested and approved technical know-how into the country. It will prove beneficial for both countries if the steel industry is also considered in this approach and new industrial investments are welcome.

Ekinci also added the following to his remarks on the visit: “In terms of production, Turkish steel industry ranks the 8th in the world and 2nd in Europe.” Our total exports rank the 8th in the world over a network of 200 countries importing our products. We closely follow all technological advancements regarding our industry and apply the latest developments in our factories. Our products have been used in numerous major projects so far, a trend that still continues. We organized this visit to compensate for each other’s shortcomings with our corresponding qualities. We underlined our purpose to engage in cooperation and joint investments throughout the meetings and took significant steps both in official and bilateral business meetings before concluding our visit with positive results for both countries. We will work with related official agencies to set the necessary conditions for cooperation and new investment opportunities. We fully believe that joint investments in the future will prove profitable for both countries.”
