Tuesday’s Assembly session sets grillings

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 16: The National Assembly Office has distributed invitations and the agenda for the ordinary session slated for Tuesday. Items on the agenda include the two grilling motions against Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Saud Al-Harbi. One of the motions is that of MP Al-Humaidi Al- Subai’e and it consists of two points.

First is the appointment of expatriates and violation of the relevant decision issued by the Council of Ministers and Civil Service Commission (CSC). Second is the failure to deal with the education file during the coronavirus crisis. Another item in the agenda is the grilling motion of MPs Khalil Abul and Ouda Al Ruwai’e against Al-Harbi, consisting of five points as follows:

■ Delay in adopting online education
■ Harming private education by issuing unstudied decisions
■ Harming the students’ future due to the delayed announcement of scholarships
■ Violating the Private Universities Law and decision to ban the unaccredited certificates; in addition to non-issuance of the executive decree for private universities
■ Refusal to distribute graduation certificates to Bedoun students at Kuwait University unless they agree to mention their nationalities in the certificates The grilling motion of MP Shuaib Al-Muwaizri against Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anas Al- Saleh will be discussed on Tuesday as well.

It consists of three points as follows: First is taking advantage of the position to make profits, second is abusing power and third is manipulation of electoral rolls which resulted in undermining the nation’s will. The session will also tackle a number of bills such as the Family Violence bill which was approved in its first reading on Aug 5, 2020.
Meanwhile, MP Riyadh Al- Adasani disclosed that he handed a report about the suspicious bank deposits of several MPs to HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled. The lawmaker disclosed that the report consists of details about money laundering, unusual movement of money in terms of remittance and large amount of money transfers.

He said he will follow up the issue, stressing that HH the Prime Minister is responsible for taking proper action like referring some files to the Public Prosecution. He added the minister of finance will be held responsible as well since he neglected the issue and did not move forward in handling the files. He warned that in case he does not see serious steps to address the issue, he will reveal the details including the names of involved MPs.

In another development, MP Abdulkareem Al-Kandari commented on the peace agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates. He said normalizing relations with Israel is a betrayal of the Arab cause, stressing that justifying normalization is worse than normalization itself. He concluded saying that those who promote normalization want to change the nature of the Arab-Israeli struggle from an issue of right and wrong into a mere point of view.
