Municipality workers toil to remove refuse

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 27: Kuwait Municipality conducted intensive campaigns to maintain cleanliness in venues for national holidays celebrations in line with the media campaign entitled, “Celebration is Behavior,” initiated by its Public Relations Department. Campaigns carried out by sanitation departments in the Capital and Hawally governorates during the two-day national holidays resulted in the removal of 24 tons of garbage, confiscation of 2,250 bags and 17 lorry loads of water guns, arrest of 110 street vendors and confiscation of 28 ice cream trolleys.

A total of 1,253 cleaning staff of the Municipality participated in the campaigns. According to the Public Relations Department, the areas will be cleaned as soon as the celebrations are over. It also called on everyone to dispose garbage properly.

Meanwhile, the clean-up drive continued in Mubarakiya market where 10 tons of restaurant refuse were removed and 300 waste bags were replaced. Director of the Capital’s Public Cleaning and Road Works Department Meshal Al-Azmi said the campaigns are in line with instructions of Municipality Director General Eng Ahmad Al-Manfouhi and will continue in all areas to preserve the general view and civilized look of Kuwait’s surroundings.
