‘Thieves Market’ in Jleeb Al Shuyoukh roars behind barbed wires

KUWAIT CITY, May 31: Jleeb looked relatively calm from outside the barbed wires placed around the area with presence of security at the entrances and exits points who check exit and entry permits. But it roars with violations and abuses from inside where large number of illegal residence violators reside.

With step taken to gradually return to normalcy after the curfew timing changed, in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh a another life resurrected which represents expats operating illegal market (Harami Soukh/Thieves market). In early morning when residents of Jleeb area opened their house doors, criminal minded expats had already set their makeshift market to sell food, vegetables, clothes, shoes, shisha, and even artifacts on streets.

It was found that expatriates from Jleeb were out there to buy their needs at low prices as the region is isolated. Due to lack of control over these markets which is also called as “Thieves Market” generally due to lack of knowledge of the source of goods sold which is mainly held in inner suburbs streets, selling goods like antiques, accessories, cigarettes, clothes and shoes are used and collected and resold again.

The market scene was crowded with customers wandering in every nook and corner of the streets where brokers selling to customers what ever they could as most of them have lost their livelihood.
