MoE to provide schools with protection supplies

KUWAIT CITY, March 4: In light of the ambiguity of the academic year in most countries in their bid to avoid the spread of coronavirus among students, the Ministry of Education intends to distribute two thermometers to each school starting from Sunday in preparation for the resumption of classes on March 15 – once the extension of the holiday as per the Cabinet’s decision ends.

Official spokesperson of the ministry Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Development and Activities Faisal Maqseed has confirmed that the thermometers will be distributed to private schools as well.

He said the ministry is keen on ensuring that the 900 public schools are ready to prevent spread of the virus without neglecting 180,000 students in 180 private schools and 17 special education schools.

He disclosed the thermometers will be in the custody of school nurses, indicating the body temperature of the staff will be taken daily starting from the morning. He added the ministry will provide public and private schools with protection supplies like masks and sterilization equipment.

He said one of the new procedures is scheduling recess periods to limit gatherings, indicating the recess for the sixth and seventh grades will be after the second period, while the eighth and ninth grades will be after the third period.

Thermometers distribution

Thermometers will be distributed in schools throughout Kuwait as part of the national measures to counter coronavirus, said the Ministry of Education Wednesday.
In a statement, the ministry indicated that a meeting was held with representatives of the Health Ministry to coordinate efforts in distributing thermometers at schools nationwide. Other measures include pamphlets and instructions informing the schools populous on how to better prevent the spread of coronavirus, added the ministry. Kuwait suspended schools and universities since March first in an effort to counter the spread of COVID-19.
