Thailand, S. Korea win gold medals on 5th day – Tight competition

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 8: Thailand and South Korea won gold medals on the fifth day of the ongoing 13th Asian Shooting Champions-hip in Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Olympic Shooting Complex.

Thai Atabon Vea Ari won gold in the 50 meters rifle prone position after a tight competition with South Korean Han Jean Syop who prevailed in the 2005 world championship and took second place in 2009, 2010 and 2012 championships respectively, while the bronze medal was claimed by his compatriot Kim Jong Hyon who walked away with silver in the London Olympiad 2012.

The South Korean team won gold medal in the 50 meters rifle prone competition and no changes were made in the schedule of arranging the champion’s medals, as India maintained the top position with 12 gold medals, 8 silver medals and 8 bronze medals.

China came second by winning 11 gold medals, 9 silver medals and 9 bronze medals, and South Korea followed with 10 gold medals, 11 silver medals, and 11 bronze medals, while Iran claimed fourth place with 5 gold medals, 4 silver medals and 5 bronze medals.

Kuwait came next after Iran with 3 gold medals, 3 silver medals and 1 bronze medal, followed by Thailand with 3 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 5 bronzes.

Kazakhstan won 2 gold medals and 1 bronze medal, and Tajikistan 1 gold medal, Mongolia won 4 silver medals and 1 bronze medal, Qatar 1 silver medal and 3 bronze medals.

Malaysia and United Arab Emirates won 1 silver medal and 1 bronze medal each, while Singapore and Taiwan won 1 silver medal, and Vietnam claimed 2 bronze medals.

The competitors have commended what they described as a well-organized championship, with unlimited support from Kuwait Shooting Union and the organizing committee.
