KUWAIT CITY, Aug 15: According to a study carried out by Professor of Educational Origins at Kuwait University Dr Ali Watfa, students of Faculty of Sharia are the least patriotic compared to students of other faculties; the reason being the nature of their curricula and the impact of the latter on those students, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The study included 1,194 students from Faculty of Sharia, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Science and Faculty of Engineering. It was determined from the results of the study that the students of Faculty of Sharia have a higher sectarian mindset than their counterparts from other faculties.

Female students have higher tribal tendency than male students. The study recommended issuance of laws to confront any kind of sectarianism and ban elections of students unions that are tribe-based or sect-based.

This is because it was discovered that a large number of students are more loyal to their tribe or sect than to their country. In this regard, Professor of Sociology at Kuwait University Dr Yaqoub Al-Kandari said the negative aspects highlighted by the study must be handled by encouraging students to study the history of Kuwait and by including the subject of history in the curricula. In addition, a researcher in Psychology Nasser Al-Khulaifi said affi liation to tribes is natural and common in Kuwait and cannot be eradicated especially since the Kuwaiti society is 85 percent tribe-based.
