KUWAIT CITY, Dec 27 : The Interior Ministry has started taking measures against food trucks, as part of its security plan for the year-end celebrations, reports Al-Rai daily quoting sources from the security sector. Sources revealed the food trucks stationed along Subiya Road (end of Jaber Bridge) have become a headache for securitymen; such that the ministry laid down a comprehensive security plan for the upcoming year-end holiday when a large number of youths are expected to gather, along with a number of food trucks selling various types of beverages and food products. Sources said the plan includes prohibiting food trucks at the end of Jaber Bridge where security checkpoints will be established, in addition to the deployment of traffic patrols, to prevent these trucks from crossing towards Subiya.

Sources warned these trucks will be impounded in case of violating the orders of securitymen. Sources added the ministry will also stop vehicles transporting buggies for rent to Subiya, because they are dangerous for children, taking into consideration the lack of regulations for renting out such vehicles. In a related development, sources from Kuwait Municipality confirmed that the Municipality branch in Jahra Governorate recently impounded food trucks operating at the end of Sheikh Jaber Bridge without a permit. Sources said the concerned department at the Municipality issued licenses to 20 food trucks whose locations have been specified. Sources added the ministry had earlier asked the Municipality to remove mobile groceries and food trucks, unlicensed camping sites and buggies for rent at the end of Jaber Bridge. Sources went on to say that the ministry warned about the possibility of using these vehicles for other purposes; such as selling narcotics and other forbidden substances, as well as food products and other items which do not conform with the standards
