‘Negative PCR certificate vital’

KUWAIT CITY, March 27: The concerned authorities are contemplating on exempting State employees, who go on official missions or foreign courses, from institutional quarantine upon their return to the country, reports Al-Qabas daily. An official source from Kuwait International Airport told the daily that if the proposal is approved; these employees will be required to submit a PCR examination certificate showing negative result upon arrival, in addition to home quarantine for a period of 14 days.

On the decision of the Council of Ministers to exempt those who took the required dosage of approved vaccines from institutional quarantine upon arrival in Kuwait and to require them to undergo home quarantine for a week and PCR examination on the seventh day of arrival, the source stressed these returnees must submit a PCR examination certificate with negative result proving that they are free of the virus upon arrival, not more than 72 hours from the date of undergoing the swab test.

The source clarified that exempting the vaccinated returnees from institutional quarantine does not mean exemption from PCR examinations. The source added they must undergo PCR test on the day of arrival and another test on the seventh day, asserting they must shoulder the fees for these tests. On the other hand, the pace of vaccination against corona has been accelerating. Health officials affirmed that the recent increase in demand for vaccination will have a positive impact on the daily rate of infections recorded in the country.

The officials also confirmed the allocation of more health centers for vaccination to support 15 health centers that are currently vaccinating citizens and expatriates. According to these officials; about 509,000 people have been vaccinated so far – 11.8 percent of the country’s population. They said the percentage will increase with the arrival of new shipments of vaccines; disclosing the second shipment of Oxford vaccine will most likely arrive next week, while the 10th shipment of Pfizer vaccine is expected to arrive at the beginning of the same week.
