KUWAIT, Nov 30: Enforcement of the new Environment Protection Law entails elimination of cafés or restaurants serving shisha, which is considered one of the sources of environmental pollution, reports Al-Rai daily quoting Municipal Council Member and Environmental Committee Chairperson Man’ea Al-Ajmi. Al-Ajmi explained the law does not allow restaurants to serve shisha, especially those located in private residential areas.
He pointed out certain areas have been specified for smoking shisha. While calling on Kuwait Municipality to include the issue in the agenda for the next workshop of the Environmental Committee, Al-Ajmi disclosed the committee will inspect cafés in residential areas to record possible pollution cases. He said the law does not allow home delivery of shisha, stressing the need to establish a prosecution office and court to handle environment-related cases; in addition to the deployment of environmental police in all governorates.
