‘Shelter can take in mistreated workers’ – One of best in Mideast

KUWAIT CITY, April 16: The Shelter for Expatriate Workers can achieve the purpose of its establishment in the form of accommodating workers who are mistreated by their employers, says Deputy Director General for Manpower Protection Affairs at Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) Abdullah Al-Mutawtah, reports Al-Jarida daily.

Al-Mutawtah declared the purpose also includes mental and social rehabilitation of the workers, curing them of fiscal and mental damages, protecting them from forcible works and rehabilitating the victims of human trafficking.

He cited international and regional commendations the shelter has received so far from foreign delegations that have visited the place for on-the-spot assessment to check the way officials are treating inmates as well as services rendered to them.

As regards the capacity of accommodation and the number of inmates presently there, he said the shelter, which remains one of the best in the Middle East can accommodate 500 inmates.

He explained the shelter currently accommodates 409 inmates from various nationalities and provides comprehensive services to inmates in line with the international standard.

The services include feeding and recreation, in addition to social and mental rehabilitation free of charge, while the officials believe that providing free essential amenities and services for the inmates are rightful obligations necessary to brighten the image of Kuwait.
