KUWAIT CITY, Sept 8, (KUNA): The Minister of Health announced on Thursday suspending medical treatment abroad except for serious cases. Dr Ali Al-Obaidi announced that only citizens suffering from serious illnesses and diseases would be allowed to get medical treatment in foreign countries.

Cases such as cancer, children’s serious illness and critical surgeries would be given the approval for the treatment outside Kuwait, the minister added in a statement. The resolution stipulates revising regulations for dispatch of patients to the foreign countries.

Modifications will be done objectively and in a manner that “safeguards providing the service only to the eligible,” Minister Al-Obaidi continued. The decision was taken at a meeting that grouped Undersecretary Dr Khaled Al-Sehlawi, Chairman of Kuwait Medical Association Dr Mohammad Al-Mutairi, senior doctors and heads of departments.
