Security tightened at border posts to prevent suspects in ‘money-laundering’ from escaping

KUWAIT CITY, July 21: In order to prevent the escape of defendants and suspects in the money laundering and corruption cases, informed security sources told the Al-Seyassah daily the Ministry of Interior has decided to tighten security at exit points and the trucks exiting the country are being searched thoroughly, reports the daily.

The security authorities say the focus is on those involved in the Malaysian Fund fraud and the Bangladeshi resident, who is also known as ‘Pablo’ and is a Member of Parliament in Bangladesh and allegedly owns a cleaning company in partnership with a Kuwaiti, and the ‘Iranian Fouad’ and the wellknown media personality since their names appeared in what is called the ‘suspicious inflation of accounts’”, in addition to the people who are on the summons list of the Public Prosecution.

The sources pointed out that strict instructions have been issued to the security services and customs at all border crossing points to fully inspect the trucks and ensure the three-year-old scenario does not repeat again – the scenario involving the Syrian businessman of French nationality Bashar Kiwan, who fled to Iraq by truck by hiding inside a goods transport truck through the Abdali port.

Bashar was wanted by law for investigation. The sources pointed out that some of the accused and suspects may take advantage of the release on bail or those against whom the search and arrest warrants have yet to be issued may attempt to escape from the country.

The sources also said emphasis should be placed on ensuring the authenticity of documents and passports. In a related context, the Public Funds and Commercial Affairs Prosecution its investigations into the case of money laundering with accused Fouad, two citizens, an Egyptian and a Belgian of Arab origin, and decided to continue their detention pending further investigation into the case.

Sources familiar with the investigation said the prosecutor, yesterday, questioned the Belgian for 4 hours, who denied his role in the case and any link to the issue.
