Saudi Arabia suspends entry of GCC citizens to Mecca and Medina

Riyadh, Feb 28: The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today, the temporary suspension of the entry of GCC citizens into the cities of Mecca and Medina.

The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques washes and sanitizes the floors of Makkah’s Grand Mosque four times daily as part of measures to ensure the safety of pilgrims. (SPA)

The Ministry added that the GCC citizens who have been in SaudiArabia for 14 days and have not displayed symptoms of coronavirus are exempt from the ban, can obtain a permit from the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah’s website to perform Umrah and visit Madinah during this temporary suspension.

The Ministry confirmed that the Kingdom’s government is closely following developments in the spread of the virus and its repercussions on an ongoing basis, and that the precautionary measures are reviewed according to new developments, and additional measures will be taken if the need arises.
