Ruling against paper withheld – Costly operation row

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 5: Public Prosecution has withheld the lawsuit No. 91/2017 filed by Ministry of Health against Al-Rai daily due to a report published by the daily on Sept 1, 2017, reports Al-Rai daily. The daily had published an article about a Syrian child who was taken out of operating theatre at the Chest Hospital because his father did not pay KD 3,000.

The report contained a statement of the child’s father who revealed that he was not informed the surgery would cost him KD 3,000 before his son was taken to the operating theatre.

Ministry of Health kept denying the incident. Minister of Health Dr Jamal Al-Harbi assured that he will study the issue as soon as he returned from his Hajj trip at that time. Instead of declaring the truth, Ministry of Health decided to file a lawsuit against the daily, accusing it of publishing fake news.
