Rudy, Newell emerge victorious in Men’s Division – Jheng bags FTBK-BEC Ladies Masters event title

KUWAIT CITY, June 22: At the conclusion of the 2016 FTBK-BEC Tenpin Bowling Tournament, Rudy Zablan of Klasmeyts-NLB Corporation banked on his superb performance in the closing games of the 8-game series to emerge victorious in the Men’s Division Group 1 Singles Event held at the Cozmo Entertainment Center in Salmiya. The Men Group 2 side on the other hand saw K2E2 Thunder Newell Sioxch grabbing the coveted title after edging Danny Doctor of D’ Islander in the tie breaker. In the Ladies Division of this event organized by the Filipino Tenpin Bowlers-Kuwait and sponsored by Bahrain Exchange Company, Jheng Liwayway of the Philippine Embassy Strikers banked on her tenacious finishing kick to bag the coveted title.

The qualifiers in the Masters Event were determined based on the bowler’s average score in the elimination round of the team event and each participant must bowl at least 12 games in order to qualify. Suiting up to vie for the Men’s Division Group 1 title and the top prizes at stake were Nelson De leon, Rod Llait, Rudy Zablan, Egay Cabildo, Romy Fermil, Aga Cuadrazal, JR Sabado, Bong Bermillo, Chris Bulacja, Bert Pantanilla, Faie Reyel, Al Belarmino and Glenn Corbit. Grabbing the early lead was Aga Cuadrazal who rolled a 201 and 206 for an opening 2-game block score of 407 pin falls. Joining Aga in the lead pack were Chris Bulacja-400, Nelson de Leon-387, Rod Llait-384 and Rudy Zablan with 383. Through his 181 and 211 scores in the next two games, Chris Bulacja snatched the driver’s seat with his 4-game series score of 792 pin falls. Chasing the leader at this stage were Egay Cabildo-775, Aga Cuadrazal-762, Nelson de Leon-762 and JR Sabado-756.

The raging battle for supremacy continued in game 5 and 6 as JR Sabado who submitted game scores of 233 and 201 took over the top spot with 1190 pin falls to his credit.  Rudy Zablan also improved his chances by carding 1181 followed by Egay Cabildo-1171, Glenn Corbit-1166 and Aga Cuadrazal-1147. In the penultimate game, a new leader emerge as Glenn Corbit took his turn atop the leader board with 1396. Rudy remained poised to strike in second with 1392 followed by the other contenders namely JR Sabado-1355, Egay Cabildo-1343 and Aga Cuadrazal-1334. The two front runners continued to square off in the final game and as the dust of the intense pin busting settled down, Rudy Zablan clinched the title after outscoring Glenn Corbit 241-221 for a final 8-game series winning tally of 1633 pin falls. Glenn Corbit settled for the first runner up post with 1617 while the second runner up prize went to JR Sabado with 1529.

In men Group 2, the masters event contenders were Jess Farne, Danny San Juan, Siddharth Nair, Abdul Khadder Faruk, Romy Daus, Sonny Mariano, Danny Doctor, Newell Sioxch, Paul Arcayan, Mac Khalil, Bobby Carambas, Joey Concepcion and Mario Santos. With his 191 and 207 scores in game 1 and 2, Danny Doctor was the early pace setter courtesy of his 398 tally. Also off to a good start were Newell Sioxch-373, Paul Arcayan-370, Jowie Concepcion-348 and Danny San Juan 344. At the halfway mark of the 8-game series competition, Newell Sioxch moved in front as he dished out a 213 and 205 in game 3 and 4 for a 4-game series score of 791. Danny Doctor remained in second with 755 followed by Mario Santos-741, Jowie Concepcion-688 and Bobby Carambas-687.

Danny Doctor made his return to the top of the standings after rolling  a 180 and 184 to go up by 3 marks over Newell Sioxch 1119-1092. And with just two games left to bowl, the remaining contenders for the top 3 positions were Jowie Concepcion-1042, Paul Arcayan-1005, Jess Farne-1002 and Mario Santos-1000. In game 7, Danny Doctor stretched his lead over Newell Sioxch to 5 marks 1296-1258 leaving the other contenders battling for the second runner post. In a down to the wire finish Newell Sioxch outscored Danny Doctor in the final game 228-190 which left the two front runners tied for the first place with 1486 pin falls apiece. After the tie breaker was applied, Newell Sioxch was declared as the champion and Danny Doctor as 1st runner up. Paul Arcayan on the other hand clinch the 2nd runner up position after garnering a total score of 1381 pin falls.

Finally in the Ladies Division, the finalists were Rita Vidana, Marilyne Mariano, Maricar Ruben, Dorcas Sansone, Emma Gatus, Jheng Liwayway, Liza Catapia, Norie Sairat, Elvie Sotio, Gina Ashley, Chit Mariano, Nitz Alinea and Vicky Navarro. Assuming role of front runner after the first two games was Liza Catapia with 376 pin falls followed by Nitz Alinea-370, Emma gatus-361, Gina Ashley-336 and Maricar Ruben-336. Midway the 8-game series event, Liza Catapia with 765 retained the leader board supremacy being chased now by Chit Mariano-750, Gina Ashley-699, Maricar Ruben-693, Jheng Liwayway-684 and Norie Sairat-683.

After the sixth game, the diminutive but tough Liza Catapia (1097) continued to tow the field  with Jheng Liwayway (1053) slowly but surely inching closer to the leader. Still in contention at this point were Gina Ashley-1048, Chit Mariano-1032, Norie Sairat-1025 and Maricar Ruben-1013. In the penultimate game 7, Liza Catapia was able to hold on to the lead with 1265 even as Jheng Liwayway with 1241 continued her assault for the title. Going to the deciding game 8, the other remaining contenders were Gina Ashley-1217, Elvie Sotio-1217 and Norie Sairat-1193. By closing her stint with a 198 to Liza Catapia’s 157, Jheng Liwayway grabbed the Ladies Division Masters title as she finished the 8-game series with final tally of 1439 pin falls. Liza Catapia gamely finished in second place with 1422 followed by Norie Sairat in third place with 1401.
