RSK tourney reaches last elims – Year starts with a bang

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 18: Starting the year with a bang, or should we say with a smash, RSK or Republika ng Sports sa Kuwait – a die-hard sport organization, holds its 16th badminton tournament dubbed as “New Year Cup 2016” at the handball gym of Kazma Sports Club in Adailiya.

Now on its 3rd week of eliminations, excited participants shake off the winter cold as they storm the wooden courts, and not only that the day was scheduled as the crucial last round of eliminations but also a day to hand over the awards of Tournament 14 winners.

AM Division players of the Team Event, Level C, and Level D categories arrived as early as 7:30 in the morning and started battling it out with badminton rivals until mid-day. On the other hand, the adorable and active kids of RSK Kids Club got their much-awaited time to use their rackets and gears as they had another round of training with Kids Club Director Garry Club.

At mid-day, all participants gathered for the awaited mini awarding program facilitated by RSK Officials Rosemarie Gomez and Fernando Gayaton. After the singing of the national anthem, Tourney 14 champions and winners were all smiles and cheers receiving their gleaming trophies and medals printed with their names, plus personalized exclusive badminton jerseys for the champions and most valuable players. An intermission number from long-time member Cheryl Manaytay added joy to the already ecstatic crowd.

After the short program, Tourney 16 saga continues and this time in the PM Division with all doubles categories of A, B, C, and D.

Qualifiers for next rounds, the final rounds will be posted in the group’s facebook page and website.
