KUWAIT CITY, Oct 22: Officials from the Manpower Protection Sector (Central Inspection Department) at the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) and Kuwait Municipality met recently, during which they agreed to set the working hours for cleaners assigned on main roads from 4:00 am to 7:00 am daily, reports Al-Rai daily quoting an informed source.

The source said that at the end of the specified working hours, members of the joint committee between PAM, Municipality and ministries of Commerce and Interior have the right to arrest these workers; especially those who beg along the streets, public roads and traffic lights.

He affirmed all those who will be arrested will be referred to the concerned authorities to deport them, in addition to suspension of the files of companies where they are registered until the deportation of the workers.

Meanwhile, PAM is currently coordinating with various ministries and government agencies to reduce by 25 percent the number of guards, janitors and cleaners under government contracts and projects.

He confirmed this coordination is in line with the decision of the Council of Ministers, indicating the representatives of government agencies are fully prepared to cooperate on reducing the number of these workers in accordance with the government’s directive to address the lopsided population structure which has affected the composition of the population in the country as a result of the use of expatriate workers in an illadvised, unplanned and thoughtless manner. He added some government agencies have started reducing the number of these workers.
