Restaurant issued citation for dumping cooking oil inside sewer

KUWAIT CITY, March 26: Environment Police Department issued citation against a restaurant located inside a famous commercial complex, based on a complaint the Ministry of Public Works fi led against the restaurant for dumping cooking oil inside a sewer.

The environment police raided the restaurant to determine its level of adherence to prevailing rules and regulations set by the Ministry of Public Works and the Environment Public Authority, and after verifi cation, the case has been referred to the Public Prosecution as per the articles of Environmental Law No. 42/2014. Article 173 states: In the course of duty, any public employee or others who are aware of or could be aware of any violation of the provision of environment law or its Executive Bylaw that may result in environmental damage should notify the Authority or Public Prosecution or policeman of the violation.

Article 33 states: It is strictly prohibited to dump garbage or wastes of all types except in the containers allotted for that purpose. Article 18 states: All installations shall comply with all engineering and environmental regulations set by the Executive Bylaw of the environmental law. Meanwhile, the Environment Police Department honored Assistant Undersecretary for Criminal Security Affairs Major General AbdulHameed Al-Awadhi when he visited the department recently.

In a press statement, the Interior Ministry confi rmed that Director General of the department Major Hussein Al-Ajmi presented a commemorative shield to Al- Awadhi for his efforts in strengthening coordination between the Environment Police and Criminal Security departments in enforcing the Environmental Law.

On the other hand, Al-Awadhi explained the role of environmental police is not less signifi cant than that of other Interior Ministry agencies, since it has been given authority to conduct environmental inspection to deter anyone who abuses Kuwait’s environment. Al-Awadhi also affi rmed cooperation between the environmental police, special criminal security agency, E-Crimes Unit and INTERPOL.
