‘Reckless drivers target; 915 deported’ – ‘New traffic cameras trap 33000 motorists in 2 mths’

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 16: Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic Affairs at Ministry of Interior Major General Fahad Al Shuwai revealed that the number of violations registered using the new traffic cameras from July 16, 2016, when these cameras were launched, to September 9, 2017 are 32,941. He explained that 915 individuals were deported and 54,166 vehicles and 950 motorcycles were seized in 2016.

From January 1, 2017 to July 29, 2017, 117 individuals were deported, and 12,028 vehicles and 633 motorcycles were seized.

Major General Al-Shuwai stressed that the new traffic cameras are based on advanced technology whereby vehicles that commit traffic violations can be recorded from any angle. He clarified that the aim of these cameras are not only for recording traffic violations but also for tracking careless drivers and violators of traffic rules and regulations.

Major General Al-Shuwai indicated that more measures will be taken against violators of traffic law with the aim of protecting the loves and properties of the people and ensuring the safety of road users. Furthermore, he indicated that the General Traffic Department summoned 1,505 owners of vehicles with G.C.C. number plates against whom indirect violations were registered, reaching up to 97,000 violations, adding that the department will continue with such measures for the protection and safety of road users.

Director General of the Public Relations and Security Media Department of Ministry of Interior Brigadier Adel Al-Hashash affirmed that the General Department for Public Relations and Security Media follows up all activities of the ministry from start until finish. He revealed that the awareness campaigns related to the new cameras had achieved its objectives in terms of reducing the rate of deportation over grave traffic violations, and the number of seized vehicles and motorcycles.

Brigadier Adel Al-Hashash said specialized officers of the department, through their presence at the sites of various occasions celebrated in the country, has been keeping a tab on the public behavior seen on the roads and referring the violators to the concerned authorities of the ministry for investigations, indicating that this has contributed to dealing with the traffic issue in a proper manner.
