Raigad Club emerge champions – Kokan Cup 2017 concludes

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 15: Kokan Cup 2017, a cricket tournament organized by Rizwan Khan, Shamsuddin Barday and team, concluded on Friday the Jan 13th, 2017. 12 best teams from Ratnagiri, Raigad and Sindhudurg districts of Maharashtra, India, along with local teams like Gulfex Challengers participated in the tournament.

The tournament was sponsored by Al Ansaf Al Khalijiya General Trading & Contracting Co, Marwa Restaurant Co, Al Dar Al Oula General Trading & Contracting Co and GULFEX Co (Al Babtain Group). The event was co-sponsored by Habibullah Mohimtully, Shafeequr Rahman, Asif Rumani, Siraj Khadas, Javed Rumani, Jamil Parkar, Munaf Kapdi, Haseeb Chougle, Masood Barde, Imtiyaz Chougle and CRIC-TEN who provided the Online Live Cricket scoring platform.

The 12 teams were divided into 4 groups of 3 teams each who played into the league rounds. Overall top 8 teams based on points and net run rate were selected for the knockout stage to play the quarter-finals, semifinals and finals. The teams qualified for the semifinals were Azad Cricket Club, Raigad Cricket Club, Chiplun Fighters Kuwait and Waghivare Cricket Club. Among the semi finalists, Raigad Cricket Club and Waghivare Cricket Club pervailed to battle in the final of the Kokan Cup 2017.

In the final match, Raigad Cricket Club proved worthy to become the Champions by comprehensively defeating Waghivare Cricket Club by 8 wickets. Umar Khan was declared the Man of the Match in the final game. Raigad Cricket Club earned the Champions title of the Kokan Cup 2017, Wagivare Cricket Club being the Runner Up team.

The presentation ceremony was held immediately after the final match, was blessed by the presence of Ahmed Shihadah, GM of GULFEX (Al Babain Group), Nazir Mohammed, MD, Al Ansaf Al Khalijiya, Habibullah Mohimtuley, Insurance Manager, Al Babtain Group, Hassan Ali, Lubricant Division Manager, GULFEX, Zahid Wangde, Finance Manager, DHL Khalid Abdul Gani, Khalil Rumani and Suganan, Finance Manager, GULFEX.

The organizers thanked all the sponsors, chief guests, participants and supporters for their contributions in making the event a grand success. Chief guest Ahmed Shihadah was kind enough to say a few inspiring words about the tournament, sportsmanship and his experiences on sports and the game of cricket which sparked a big round of applause in the audience.

Along with the Champions and Runner Up awards, there were other awards presented by the respected chief guests in the presentation ceremony. Momentos were awarded to the Umpires, Scorers and for valuable contributions in the tournament. Other award winners were, SajjadWaliley as Best Batsman, Atif Rajiwte as Best Bowler, Bilal Rumane as the Man of the Series, GULFEX was named as the Best Debutante team and Dabhil Cricket Club won the Fairplay award. Finally the presentation ceremony concluded with thank yous and appreciation for all the people involved in making the event a success.
