KUWAIT CITY, March 18: Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said information that has been published by the Al-Rai daily about the arrest of a Zimbabwean employee working for the Kuwaiti Embassy in Harare for trafficking in humans is true, reports Al- Rai daily.

However, sources at the Ministry said the employee is still being interrogated and the authorities of both countries are identifying the dimension of this case and necessary action to be taken.

However, the source said some of the information which had been published by the Zimbabwean The Herald newspaper is inaccurate, because entry to Kuwait is governed by laws and decision issued by Ministry of Interior in cooperation with Kuwait’s overseas missions which ensure all requirements are fulfilled to protect the foreign workforce. Earlier it was reported, the Zimbabwean police over the weekend had arrested a senior Kuwait embassy official believed to be part of a well-organized human trafficking organization.

The 62-year-old suspect, identified as B.A. May, and believed to be working as a secretary at the Kuwait Embassy in Harare was luring female job-seekers to Kuwait on the pretext the job was secure and decent, but in actual fact they were sold into prostitution and menial jobs. May is suspected of facilitating or processing visas for the victims. According to a Zimbabwean newspaper about 200 Zimbabwean women are stranded in Kuwait after being promised jobs.
