Projects review in Cabinet extraordinary meeting

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 9: The Cabinet held on Thursday an extraodinary meeting under the chairmanship of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah at the office of Kuwait Integrated Petroleum Industries Company (KIPIC) in Al-Zour area. After the meeting, Minister of Health and Acting Minister of Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Dr. Basel Humoud Al-Sabah said that His Highness the Prime Minister paid a visit to Al-Zour refinery and liquefied natural gas importing facilities as part of the Cabinet inspection of vital projects. He added that Minister of Oil and Minister of Higher Education Dr. Mohammad Al-Fares provided the Prime Minister with a briefing during his tour of KPICI facilities.

The Prime Minister affirmed that Al-Zour refinery was a major international project that will help provide clean electricity and fuel to Kuwait, indicated Minister Sheikh Dr. Basel, noting that His Highness also pointed out that the project – at 98.67 percent from being completed – will offer job opportunities and push for the development of the private sector. On the liquefied natural gas facilities, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled affirmed it was in line with the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation’s (KPC) 2030 plans, saying that the project – at 99.57 percent competition – was designed with environment protection in mind. The facilities will provide electricity and petrochemical products. Meanwhile, Sheikh Dr. Basel Al-Humoud indicated that the Cabinet was informed on the biofuel project and efforts to expand refineries in Al-Ahmad and Mina Abdullah.

Then the Cabinet reviewed the visual presentation submitted by the Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdul Rahman Badah Al- Mutairi and Mrs. Munira Suleiman Al-Huwaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information regarding the State of Kuwait’s participation in the Dubai World Expo 2020, which will be held in the sisterly United Arab Emirates under the theme “Connecting Minds and Creating the Future.”

The council also reviewed a report on the entertainment city project for stimulating local tourism, events and recreational activities. The Cabinet listened to an explanation given by the Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology Affairs, Dr. Rana Abdullah Al-Faris about the circumstances of the accident that occurred at the site of the new Kuwait International Airport (T2) project under construction yesterday, which resulted in the death of two workers. The committee will submit its report within a week in preparation for holding those responsible to account and taking the necessary legal measures in this regard. (KUNA)
