RIYADH, Oct 18: HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud, Chairman of Alwaleed Philanthropies, received at his office in Riyadh AntÛnio Guterres, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and former Portuguese Prime Minister, who was accompanied by a UNHCR Pakistani and Afghani delegation.

The meeting began as Guterres thanked Prince Alwaleed for giving him and the delegation an opportunity to meet him. The meeting focused on discussing philanthropic projects, outreach, and the overall impact of the Alwaleed Philanthropies humanitarian initiatives across the globe.

Moreover, Prince Alwaleed praised the UNHCR efforts in leading and coordinating international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide. Moreover, during the meeting, Guterres stressed on the urgent need for humanitarian action in supporting the refugees around the world, particularly 3.5 million Afghani refugees displaced in Pakistan who aspire to return to their country. Furthermore, Guterres also discussed with Prince Alwaleed the possibility of a cooperation between the UNHCR and Alwaleed Philanthropies to solve this problem.

Alwaleed Philanthropies previous collaborations with UNHCR includes with SR1,500,000 support of Syrian refugees in Lebanon and other countries as well as supporting the Nepal earthquake victims. The Pakistani delegation was headed by Lt Gen (R) Abdul Quadir Baloch, Pakistani Minister SAFRON, and included Dr Imran Zeb Khan, Chief Commissioner Afghan Refugees in Pakistan, HE Sohail Qadeer Siddiqui, Pakistani Senior Joint Secretary of SAFRON.

The Afghani delegation was headed by HE Sayed Hussain Alimi Balkhi, Afghan Minister of Refugees and Repatriation, and included HE Atiqullah Atifmal, Afghan Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, HE Ahmad Shafiq Qarizada, Afghan Deputy Minister of Finance. The UNHCR delegation headed by Guterres included Maya Ameratunga, Representative of UNHCR Afghanistan, Indrika Ratwatte, UNHCR Representative, Nabil Othman, GCC Acting Representative, Firas Kayal, S. External Relations Officer, Mohammad Nader Farhad, Associate PI Officer, UNHCR Afghanistan.

The meeting was also attended by a delegation from Alwaleed Philanthropies that included Ms Abir Kaki, Secretary General, HRH Princess Lamia Bint Majed Alsaud, Executive Manager of Media & Communication, Ms Nauf AlRawaf, Executive Manager of International Development Projects and Ms Amal AlGarafi, Project Manager of Global Projects. Also, attending from Kingdom Holding Company (KHC), chaired by Prince Alwaleed, was Ms Heba Fatani, Senior Executive Manager, Corporate Communication Department, and from HRH’s Private Office the attendees were Ms Hassna Alturki, Executive Manager for International Relations to HRH the Chairman, Fahad Bin Nafil, Senior Executive Assistant to HRH the Chairman and Ahmed AlTobaishi, Executive Assistant to HRH the Chairman.
