Poll hopefuls now total 222

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 31: A total of 222 citizens – 210 men and 12 women – have so far filed their candidacies for the upcoming National Assembly elections; including 37 candidates who registered Wednesday. In the First Constituency; five male candidates registered – Ahmed Hajji Lari, Ali Mustafa Halawa, Makki Musallam Al-Qedaihi, Yousef Ahmed Al-Ketaiti and Yousef Fahd Al-Ghareeb. In the Second Constituency; three male candidates registered AbdullahbTurki Al-Anbae, Fayez Naif Al-Rudaini and Muhammad Ahmed Al-Awadi. In the Third Constituency; four candidates registered including one woman – Hamad Adel Al-Obaid, Abdulaziz Sultan Al-Otaibi, Abdulkareem Abdullah Al-Kandari and Faten Megren Al- Lugani. In the Fourth Constituency; 10 candidates registered including one woman – Baker Badi Al-Rashedi, Saad Bani Al-Rashedi, Abdullah Fehad Al-Anzi, Farraj Falah Al-Hajraf, Fahd Muhammad Mehalhal, Fawaz Thamer Al-Mutairi, Mubarak Homoud Al-Tashah, Nafei Jali Al-Dhufairi, Yousef Muhammad Al-Bazzali and Bushra Saad Khalaf. In the Fifth Constituency; 15 male candidates registered – Jaber Saad Al-Azmi, Husain Ali Al-Otaibi, Hamad Hamad Al-Ajmi, Homoud Muhammad Al-Hamdan, Saad Houfan Al-Hajri, Abdulwahed Muhammad Khalfan, Ali Sayer Al-Azmi, Eid Falah Al-Azmi, Fahd Al-Huzaili Obaid, Fehad Muhammad Al-Ajmi, Muhammad Salem Al-Ajmi, Muhammad Hadi Al-Hewaila, Mahmoud Abdullatif Abbas, Meshabeb Hamlan Al-Sahli and Naif Al-Merdas Al-Ajmi.

On the other hand, Director of the General Department for Election Affairs Colonel Salah Al-Shatti said Article Four of Election Law No. 35/1962 allows candidates to withdraw starting from the registration date until seven days before the election. He also disclosed that the department will start receiving the request of candidates to issue identification cards for their representatives on the day after the deadline for filing candidacies – Sept 7, 2022. He added the conditions for the issuance of the identification cards are as follows: the holder must be registered in the electoral rolls in the same constituency as the candidate.

Meanwhile, former MP Adnan Abdulsamad announced that he will not contest the upcoming elections as he is keen on giving a chance to the youths. In another development, the Ministry of Interior confirmed that citizens subject to remand for involvement in the primary elections of Bani Ghanim Tribe are allowed to register for the elections in the detention cell.
