Police hunt foulplay as Syrian commits suicide – Raid finds fake, expired soft drinks

KUWAIT CITY, May 27: A 20-year-old Syrian expatriate committed suicide inside his house in Sabah Al-Salem area by covering his head and face with a bag and inhaling the butane gas of a cigarette lighter. According to security sources, when the Operations Room of Ministry of Interior received information from a Syrian man that his son is lying unconscious on the ground with a bag over his head and a cigarette lighter next to him, securitymen rushed to the location with paramedics. They checked the victim to discover he was dead. They referred the corpse to the Forensics Department and launched investigations to determine if the victim committed suicide or if there were any other factors behind his death.

Expired soft drinks: During a surprise inspection campaign at the central markets and shops in Shuwaikh personnel from the Commercial Control Department of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry have seized 1,440 bottles of expired counterfeit popular drinks, reports Al-Rai daily. The Assistant Undersecretary for Commercial Compliance Eid Al-Shimmari said the pre-emptive strike carried out by the commercial control department is to check on price and prevent manipulation and fraud as the holy month of Ramadan approaches. Shimmari said the Department has organized this surprise campaign with the help of Al-Siddiq Emergency Center. During the raid quantities of counterfeit bottles were seized whose validity date had expired and were being readied for distribution. He added the product and the owners have been referred to the Commercial Prosecution.
