KUWAIT CITY, Mar 12: As soon as the government announce two-week official holiday, which includes the government and private sectors yesterday evening.
Thousands of Kuwaitis and expats flocked to cooperative societies to purchase consumer goods of various kinds, which lead to shortages this led market departments to speedup the work and replace the shortages.
All around Cooperative societies, supermarkets, bakeries, petrol stations and food distribution hubs recorded heavy traffic and unusual turnout.

There was huge demand for vegetables, fruits and frozen meat, and the focus was more on infants food and other supplies. Same scene was also seen in the wholesale market for food and meat in Shuwaikh and other areas.

The Minister of Commerce and Industry , Khaled Al-Roudhan, assured that “Kuwait has enough stock pile of food supplies.”
He said, “You can rest assured that the circumstance we are going through is an exceptional circumstance that we must adhere to precautionary and preventive measures for the sake of your safety.

The Minister of Commerce and Industry Khaled Al-Roudhan verified the prices of all kinds of food commodities.The officials of the Ministry held extensive coordination meetings with the various authorities concerned with providing food and industrial goods, which included the Public Authority for Industry, the Federation of Associations and the Federation of Producers and Factories.

Cooperatives to operate 24×7

The Ministry of Social Affairs denied reports that the Ministry had issued a circular to cooperative societies to close all shops.
The ministry said, in a press release, that cooperatives are operating at full capacity, stressing the need for everyone to stand together in light of the current crisis, and to be careful not to promote rumors to not intimidate citizens and residents.
