Panel to study bids for third phase of new passenger terminal project

KUWAIT CITY, March 12: The committee formed by the Ministry of Public Works to study bids for third phase of the project for constructing, furnishing and maintaining aircraft parking lots, taxiways and service buildings in the new passenger terminal building at Kuwait International Airport, will next week start studying the bids of the companies that are competing to implement this project, reports Al-Rai daily.

According to informed sources from the ministry, the committee, which was formed under the chairmanship of the assistant undersecretary for the major projects sector Abdulmohsen Al-Enezi, is studying the bids of the lowest-priced companies to ensure they meet the conditions mentioned in the tender. The study is expected to take between 45 days to 60 days, which will be followed by preparations by the ministry to submit its recommendation of the winning company.

The launch of the third phase comes in line with the works being implemented in the first and second phases for the construction of the main building and its annexed buildings, and the roads and services of the project. These phases are proceeding according to plan to complete all works in parallel with each other. It is noteworthy that the site of the third phase of the project is located between the eastern and western runways, extending from building No. 2 on an estimated area of 3.21 million square meters.

It consists of aircraft hangars, arenas and corridors linked to the current runways, air service roads, service tunnels associated with building No. 2, an electrical station, a building for food supplies, a support building, and passenger bridges. The project aims to increase the capacity of Kuwait International Airport to reach 25 million passengers annually, and become the latest regional hub in the region. It uses the latest technology in the field of aviation, and the highest environmental standards to achieve high levels of comfort and distinguished service for travelers
