‘Complainants’ ID will be kept confidential’

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 1: The parliamentary Family Affairs Committee on Tuesday approved a compilation of important proposals on family abuse, resulting in a comprehensive draft law which will be submitted before the upcoming legislative round.

Committee Rapporteur MP Muhammad Al-Dallaal disclosed that the bill aims to link all family related laws in order to make them more effective and manageable in courts, particularly articles which address ‘verbal exchanges’ between family members.

On the other hand, Committee Chairperson MP Safaa Al-Hashem affirmed that the panel is keen on enacting legislation covering all family concerns, especially abuse, under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Social Affairs and High Council for Family.

The proposals include implementation of a State program to raise public awareness on family values and prevention of abuse, as well as the establishment of a judicial department with a hotline which will receive reports and complaints while keeping the identities of involved individuals confidential.
