Gamblers, beggars among people arrested

KUWAIT CITY, April 20: A security source said 2,100 expatriates of Arab and Asian nationalities have been arrested since the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan until yesterday on charges of begging for alms, gambling and committing all kinds of acts of immorality by the Residence Affairs and Security Investigation departments of the Ministry of Interior, reports Al-Anba daily.

In response to a question about the method of arresting these people, the source said most of them were arrested after the CID men received information from what they called police agents while some others, such as beggars, were caught in the act. The source confirmed that the beggars as well as the children who were with them, were referred to the Administrative Deportation Department, and their names included on the lists of those not authorized to enter again, which is the same procedure that was followed with the expatriates violating the residence law.

On a related level, the criminal security sector, represented by the Department for the Protection of Public Morals and Combating Trafficking in Persons, was able to arrest 8 expatriates — 7 women and a man — for practicing immoral acts. They were picked from an unidentified location in Jleeb Al- Shuyoukh. Another campaign by the Residence Affairs Investigations men in the Farwaniya area resulted in the arrest of 18 violators and 17 male and female expatriates who were wanted by law in fraud cases.
